Here are few tips on writing a personal statement (as well as a great sample of teaching personal statement):
- First of all, follow the requirements and tips of the school you're applying to.
- Research. Do research on the program you're enrolling into, professors you will work with, etc. Gather as much information as possible and use it as your strength in your personal statement.
- Be honest and confident in your strengths. Don't focus on your weaknesses because you can come out as lazy and whiny.
- Also, try to avoid using humour and cliches in your personal statement.
- Proofread your personal statement few days later. Read it aloud to spot mistakes and gaps in writing.
