Analysis of Technically Inventive Dream-Like Mental Imagery

Analysis of dream-like imagery associated with an altered awareness
state reveals the existence of inventive technical ideas embedded within
imagined machines and devices. These show an unexpected degree of detail
and complexity and suggest a high degree of mental functioning during
the altered state. This paper provides two examples of this kind; a
photochemical solar energy converter and an envisioned synthetic method
of producing a proton-conductive lubricating oil. The basic ideas within
these promoted some successful bench-top experiments. The data suggests
that a mental process that involves dream-like imagery may be an approach
to scientific creativity and invention.
