The Case for the Loch Ness "Monster": The Scientific Evidence
Henry H. Bauer, 1306 Highland Circle, Blacksburg, VA 24060-5623
Loch Ness Monsters (Nessies) are-if they exist-animals of a species
either not yet known to science or known but thought to have been long
extinct. Much controversy has concerned eyewitness testimonies and photographs
whose relevance and validity are uncertain. However, there also exists
a body of objective evidence that critics have been unable to gainsay:
the Dinsdale film; numerous sonar echoes obtained over many years by
different investigators; and underwater photography in 1972 coincident
with sonar detection of large targets.
It is suggested that the natural habitat of Nessies is at significant
depths, in sea fjords as well as in "monster" lochs.
