Common Knowledge about the Loch Ness Monster: Television, Videos, and Films

Henry H. Bauer, 1306 Highland Circle, Blacksburg, VA, 24060-5623

Seventeen documentary films and videos about the Loch Ness Monster (Nessie) have been produced since 1972 for English-speaking audiences. All but two of them fail to do justice to the objective scientific evidence of film, sonar, and underwater photography with simultaneous sonar detection. Moreover, the programs promulgate numerous errors of fact and of interpretation. The view as to whether Nessies are real was more accepting in the 1970s and more dismissive in the 1990s.
