In response to the growing number of inquiries from young
scholars interested in exploring the challenging topics addressed
by the Society for Scientific Exploration, SSE is pleased to announce
its new Young Investigators Program. The purpose of this program,
intended to be designed and implemented primarily by its participants,
is to provide information and resources pertaining to the scholarly
study of anomalous phenomema and other frontier areas of science
which at present are not adequately addressed by traditional academic
programs and professional forums.
While participation in this program is not limited to members of
SSE, the Society encourages interested young scholars to join at
a special reduced student rate of annual dues ($30) available to
undergraduates or graduate students. SSE membership includes a subscription
to the quarterly Journal
of Scientific Exploration and to The Explorer newsletter, a
copy of the Membership Directory, and participation in the Society's
annual U.S. meetings and biennial European meetings. (Application
form)
This Young Investigators website will be providing information
about
- Available academic programs or on-line courses of study
- Institutions offering relevant degree programs
- Symposia or conferences of potential interest
- Recommended reading lists
- Links to a wide range of useful on-line resources
- Information about SSE-sponsored student internships and independent
research projects
The information on this website is intended to provide a broad
range of available resources for the aspiring scholar, and should
not be interpreted as an endorsement by SSE or the Young Investigators
Program of any particular topic, perspective, or organization.
A special meeting with the Young Investigators will be scheduled
at the next annual SSE Meeting. This will be an informal gathering
of young scholars and senior researchers, intended to solicit ideas
from members for enhancing the Young Investigators Program and to
provide an opportunity to meet others with common interests.
The Young Investigators Program is still in its infancy and we
recognize that the information currently posted on our website is
far from comprehensive. Its ultimate utility will depend strongly
on the participation of and contributions from the young investigators
it is intended to serve, and from those established scholars who
share our desire to encourage and support aspiring young scientists.
For additional information about the program, to find out how to
volunteer as a mentor for internships or independent research projects,
or to make a financial contribution to support the internship program,

at bjd @ icrl.org.
